Field Notes #3: The Adventure Lab goes to Joshua Tree

Adventure: Hiking & Camping
Location: Joshua Tree National Park
Date: November 18-20, 2016
Adventurers: Tim Stempel, Tim's wife Tatum

We loaded up the Adventure Lab for its longest trip yet, San Diego to Joshua Tree National Park. We wanted to give it a proper test run, and make sure it is really up for the rigors we've got planned for it. The Adventure Lab ran well and the drive was as we wanted it - uneventful. We landed in the park about a half hour before sunset and found a nice spot to have some dinner and a short hike.

We were treated to a beautiful desert sunset on our roof top deck and enjoyed the amazing colors as the sun went down.

On day two we rose early, made some delicious coffee to enjoy on the roof top once again. We planned for a longer hike and went out to explore the Wonderland of Rocks area in Joshua Tree. We hiked out a couple of miles and then picked out a rock pile peak to climb up. Our ascent proved unsuccessful but fun as we scrambled around on big boulders trying to find a safe way to the top. Unfortunately we never did, but had a blast climbing around.

We headed down around the backside of our little peak and back to the main trail. Once back at the Adventure Lab we prepped a nice lunch and packed up to make our way back to San Diego. The Adventure Lab ran like a champ the whole time on this trip, helping us feel confident about taking it on more adventure excursions in the near future!
